The Art of Making The Bed || Russia Files

This film is part of a series of videos I will be posting from my time abroad in Russia. It is exactly what it states in the title: a film about making a bed. This moment was important for me to capture for the very reason that so many of us rush through what is seemingly the mundane. This includes; taking care of self, being kind to others, allotting time to clean house. These silly, small tasks which we are too busy and too rushed to take care of but what often become the foundation of who we are. Poor self-care leads to poor health and well-being. Dismissiveness towards others leads to broken relationships. Disorganized and a disheveled home leads to anxiety and possibly depression. Again, small things but one's that accumulate over time to cause major negative affects. I was reminded (irritatingly as I was in a rush to get this bed made) by my 90 year old Grandfather, that there is no rush, and that in fact, there is much pleasure in taking things slow, and ultimately being more present. Perhaps unbeknownst to him but this process is no different than the ways of the Buddhists or anyone striving for a more present existence. It is total focus and dedication to the task at hand, even if it means spending six minutes making the bed. My question is: how can you slow down? Filmed in Moscow, Russia
