"You can't outrun all of your problems, but you also can't outrun all of the good stuff." - Ralph Strangis
For most, Ralph Strangis is a tv personality, broadcaster, host, play by play commentator, writer, and one of the few media members professional athletes actually like. For me, he's a dear friend, a fellow seeker, and a soul soaking in the world.
We met under peculiar circumstances and totally by chance, and what was supposed to be a one-time conversation in the presence of a mutual friend, turned into a soul connection and a meaningful friendship. Ralph's the kind of guy with whom I can share some of the more existential crises which surface inside of me. At worst, he completely understands. At best, he challenges me to go deeper.
While on my Road Trip with Chester Pink, I tweeted out that I would be passing through Dallas, Texas and that I was looking for a space to host an IN THE UNKNOWN Workshop. Ralph immediately reached out, offered a place for us to crash, and began searching for available spaces for my Workshop.
Chester and I ended up spending two evenings with Ralph. The first evening, we sat in Workshop, followed it up by a Stanley Cup win by Alex Ovechkin, and ended the night with some ice cream and a long chat. The second day, I completely crashed. The travel and the heat got the best of me, and so I spent majority of the day sleeping away my exhaustion. Upon awaking, Ralph and Chester ordered pizza, and we all gathered up on the couches for a movie. The following day, we packed up our bags, said our farewells, and went on our way.
Ralph's that guy. Where he'll give you as much or as little as you need, and he's never in judgement of one's circumstances.
Before we continued our journey, I sat down with my good friend to talk about our time together, on the importance of challenging oneself for personal growth, on always saying YES!, and the journey of the road.
